Settlement (liquidación) is always paid when an employment relationship ends and includes untaken vacations and accrued extra payments. Severance is only paid in certain types of dismissal or end of contract.

Since the 2012 reform, it is 33 days per year worked, with a maximum of 24 monthly payments.

Dismissal Glossary

Settlement
Document detailing the amounts the company owes the worker at the end of the contract (vacations, accrued extra payments).
Severance
Mandatory economic compensation for unfair dismissal (33 days/year) or objective dismissal (20 days/year). Does not apply in voluntary resignation.
Daily Salary
Result of dividing the gross annual salary by 365. It is the basis for calculating both severance and vacations.
Seniority
Time worked in the company from the date of start to the date of termination. Calculated in years, months, and days accurately.
Extra Payments
By law, workers are entitled to two extra payments per year (Christmas and Summer). In the settlement, the accrued and unpaid proportional part is received.
